Career Path

Prep Cook (Cook III)

Objectives: Entry level position where you will learn from the best culinarians to help you in your start to a long culinary career. Must possess basic food safety knowledge and knife skills and a passion for cooking is a must!

Est. time in position: 2 or more years

Line Cook (Cook II)

Objectives: Build upon your learnings from a prep cook or jump into a role where you will enhance your organization and culinary skills to maximize production efficiency. You will be trained in various stations within the kitchen and learn the IT tools to effectively manage the business.

Est. time in position: 2 or more years

Culinary Management Trainee

Objectives: Learn how to impact the 5 Measures and about culinary standards while mastering core recipes and cooking techniques with the aim of becoming a Sous Chef upon successful completion of the program.

Est. time in position: 2 years

Lead Cook (Cook I)

Objectives: Learn how to manage & develop others, build customer relationships, demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of the role, manage production of kitchen; recipes, food safety, policies and procedures & financials.

Est. time in position: 1 or more years

Sous Chef

Objectives: Manage kitchen operations, drive knowledge based service, train and develop culinary staff.

Est. time in position: Multiple experiences req. – 1 or more years

Store Chef

Objectives: Learn how to partner across the store to provide customers with delicious, innovative meal solutions, control product usage between prep areas, develop culinary employees and bring the What We Do and Who We Are to life.

Executive Chef

Objectives: Focus on being the primary food resource and setting the culinary standard for the store, partner with Perishable departments to develop food knowledge in all employees and customers.

Job Description

Days Hours Req: PT Employees may work up to 30 hours per week with shifts ranging between 4 & * hours at a time. Specific days/hours of work vary by position Schedule: Part-time

Our Prepared Foods department offers customers healthy, affordable meal solutions throughout the entire day. In this position, you’ll educate our customers about the exceptional ingredients and products we offer and assist in the creation of a variety of entrée and side dishes. Product (What We Do)

  • Follow Wegmans core recipes, job aids, production lists, and proper knife skills to prep ingredients and ensure a quality and consistent outcome
  • Maintain appearance of Chef’s case by refilling products, setting up supplies, and ensuring station is well-merchandised and signs are properly displayed

Results (What We Measure)

  • Perform opening and closing procedures, leaving the department ready for tasks to take place efficiently the next morning
  • Properly handle products, use equipment, keep accurate logs and follow sanitation practices in accordance with food and human safety guidelines and Simplification 5S procedures

Work Environment

  • Work includes walking, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, grasping, repetitive and sustained hand and arm movements, bending, reaching, frequent lifting, and occasional heavy lifting, along with continuous interaction with customers and co-workers in a fast-paced environment. Work involves exposure to various work environments, including temperature changes. The average weight range of items lifted is 5-20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction)
  • Work may include use of hand pallet jack, power pallet jack, power walkie-reach, scissors lift or WAV unit. Wegmans certification required for use of power equipment
